There's more than a leaning tower in pisa, Italy

Pisa cathedral

The most unusual site in pisa, is of course the Leaning Tower, one of four incredible buildings in the Square of Miracles.

The Leaning Tower [la Torre di Pisa]is the bell tower of the Cathedral. It’s one of the four magnificent buildings in the Square of Miracles [Piazza dei Miracoli]. Construction began in 1173 and took 177 years to complete, because of the ground under the tower, it started to subside and after years of restoration work is now open to the public.

Climbing the stairs can be an experience with the lean of the tower being around 55 degrees which means the top is 4.5 metres off centre and 57 meter’s high. Climb the 294 steps and your reward for the effort is a wonderful view over the city.

Other places of interest. For example, the Knights Square with the magnificent Palazzo Della Carovana with its fantastic scraffito façade.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa Italy Getting here to this popular tourist attraction.can be quite easy by trains, buses and also Pisa International airport only a few kilometers away. I found driving here without difficulty. It is a busy city and sometimes hard to find an empty parking space.

The only problem in this city , is you are never far away from street sellers who work the parking areas and seem to think because they show you an empty parking space you should buy something from them. Usually what they’re selling is paper tissues and other useless tat.

After being approached five times in as many minutes I did find this annoying when all I want to do is park my car and go sightseeing.

I wonder what the hire company thought when we returned the car with 20 packets of tissues left in the boot; sometimes you just can’t refuse these street hawkers.

Vera won’t say, no thanks, then she explains to me, it’s a way of getting rid of her small coins. She could have given them to me, they buy a cool beer on a hot day just the same as paper currency. That’s after I’ve park the car up for the day. Drinking and driving is not smart and can ruin your vacation.
