Food In Italy - Better Than The French!
Let's discuss food in Italy For us, this kitchen is fantastic; haute cuisine or simple cooking.
One thing is for sure Italy as some of the finest produce in the world; food here can be simple fare or haute cuisine.
On our trip through Italy we ate in many different restaurants. On average the food was very good and the produce very fresh.
It is quite normal for the waiter to place a small basket of bread [pane] on the table when you sit down; something to nibble on till your order is taken, but expect to find on your receipt a small charge around 1 euro [pane e coperto] which is still good value.
Anti pasta [starter]
In general is a dish which can vary from different types of salami, cheeses, ham, olives. One of our favourite dishes was melon with prosciutto ham.
Brochette
A piece of bread, grilled then rubbed with garlic and a light drizzle of olive oil served with various topping such as vegetables herbs, cheese, fish etc.
Main courses of pastas
Spaghetti, macaroni, ravioli, lasagne, tagliatelle. These pasta dishes normally comes with various sauces, cheese, vegetables, meat or fish.
Pizzas
They come with all sorts of toppings, you name it, you can get it. To be honest throughout our tour all the pizza we ate was very much the same as what we get back in our own country, so our conclusion is: pizza is pizza and when in doubt you can’t go wrong
