Car hire is so much easier than most countries,
no waiting and endless amounts time wasting papers to sign:
Outside Pisa air terminal there was a clearly marked car hire bus stop, the bus ran every few minutes and with heavy bags it was welcome. The bus draws up at the rentals hall. Inside very easy to find hire company desks all well sign posted, also toilets for freshening up plus baby room. At the hire desk not like in other countries we have visited quick and simple show the relevant documents, sign the lease agreement and we were shown to our vehicle.

optional extra was new clean and air co which is much needed in dry summer months. After a kilometer or so we wondered if maybe it was the wrong auto being a little small to what we’re used to drive. This 4 seat auto with trunk room for one large suitcase, only enough room for two adults in the front and limited leg room in the rear, which could be a little uncomfortable for passengers on a long journey, so it’s best to hire the right automobile and have happy passengers when you pull over to do some sightseeing, and not have them bent over with cramps and needing a walking stick, you know what I mean.
The next days trip to Pisa we soon realized that the small car was the best choice, with parking being at a premium. The Volvo back home would have been impossible to park in some areas, and this we found to be the case in most villages and towns we visited. So next year’s vacation another small automobile will be hired. I must insist on a radio, there wasn’t one in the vehicle we had hired, turning on a radio is a good idea when words become superfluous after an hour or two driving. But then the scenery in Italy does take your breath and speech away, so maybe the radio wasn’t necessary after all...
