Camping in Italy

starry starry night's

Italy is a fantastic country for walking/hiking bicycling and camping vacations. from many of the sites throughout Italy you can look out over splendid country valleys with cultivated fields of sunflowers which remind you of the painting “The Sunflowers” by Van Gogh.

sunflowers
I prefer to think it was here that Vincent got his inspiration from, and not what history tells us.With church domes, tilled roof tops in villages and towns below, beautiful hills and mountain ranges above, really is inspiring for painters and photographers.

Visit the regional farmers markets with their amazingly tasteful freshly grown produce. We would ourselves buy a kilo or so of grapes and other locally grown fruits for breakfast next morning.

public transport

Reasonably good reliably public transportation gives vistitors without there own transport easy access to towns and cities. It’s a good idée to check how far the bus stops and train stations are away from the sites that you have chosen to spend some of your vacation on. Usually they’re situated a short walking distance but we have heard some advertising public transport nearby and in reality 1or2 miles away, their short distance may differ from your short distance

hillside walk

You can find lots of info at the local tourist offices found in nearly all the places you’re likely to visit.

A little Italian that you will need

  • Campsite,........la piazzola

  • Check in,..........regestrare la il arrivo

  • Shower,............la doccia

  • Toilet,...............il cagno

  • Drinking water,..acqua

  • Cold water,........freddo

  • Hot water,.........Caldo...attention to this word, sounds very much like the opposite

  • Kitchen,.............la cucina

Italian people are very willing to help and give information and love to try out their English. We found sometimes it was hard to get away from someone giving us direction to a local store, they just wanted to talk, one lady even telephoned a store for their opening times! You will find Italian people very warm and pleasant just like their country.

    tents on campsite

One little tip for visitors from the UK, Australia Japan and other countries’ that drive on the left hand side. I won’t insult your intelligence, but it can be very easy to forget they drive on the right side of the road and one little moment of forgetfulness can ruin your vacation. Stay safe and enjoy your vacation.
